Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry refers to any dental procedure that repairs or replaces a tooth. Restorative procedures include tooth fillings, dental bridges and crowns, dentures and even dental implants. There are usually two goals in restorative dentistry: to restore the function of the teeth and to restore the appearance of the teeth. In some cases, it’s one or the other, and in most cases it’s both.

  • Crowns– When a tooth becomes damaged from severe decay or crack due to injury, it can be replaced with a crown. A crown is a tooth-shaped ‘cap’ placed on top of a damaged tooth to restore strength, shape and size. It also protects the tooth and improves the way it looks. In a crown placement procedure, the top part of the tooth is shaved down and the crown is placed over it. A crown looks and functions just like your natural tooth.

  •  Bridges- A dental bridge is a custom-made replacement tooth or tooth that fills the space where one or more teeth are missing. A bridge is typically made of crowns placed over the existing teeth to hold the bridge in place.

  • Dentures– Dentures are removable replacements for broken or missing teeth. Normally, dentures consist of an entire arch of teeth. They are aesthetically pleasing and are designed to fit with the shape and size of the wearer’s jaws, so they fit perfectly and comfortably. Dentures are available as complete sets for replacing the entire set of upper or lower teeth or as partial dentures used to replace just one or a few missing teeth.

  • Dental Implants– Dental implants are the closest you can get to natural teeth. It is the most advanced tooth replacement technique in modern dentistry that restores the full functioning ability of the mouth. The implant is a bolt-like structure that is screwed into the jawbone to replace not just a missing tooth but the roots as well. The implant root is made of titanium, a biocompatible metal that bonds with the jaw bone to form a solid hold. The root is surgically placed in the jaw and a crown is attached to the top. The whole implant looks and functions just like a natural tooth, which is why it is considered to be the best tooth replacement option. Dental implants can also function as anchors for bridges and dentures.

  • Root Canal Treatment– A root canal treatment also known as endodontic treatment is one way to save your tooth from cavities. A root canal procedure may be required when a cavity goes deep into the tooth and the soft pulp (tissues and nerves) inside the tooth is infected. During a root canal procedure, your dentist will clean out all of the infected soft pulp from the inside of the tooth and root canal and fill the inside of the tooth with a composite material to restore the function and appearance of the tooth.
